5th Annual “HOLY SMOKE” Christian grilling competition
It keeps getting better!!Thanks to all of the grilling teams and churches that helped; and to everyone that attended and made this event another great success!!!
The Macedonia Baptist Church Brotherhood, with the help of the entire church family hosted the fifth annual “Holy Smoke Christian Grilling Competition” on Saturday April 19, 2008.
The event continues to grow since the first Holy Smoke, 5 years ago. There were 17 grilling teams that participated in the cook-off this year from local churches and the surrounding area as far off as Unadilla Ga. The event is designed to bring area churches together for a time of fellowship and Christian fun, as an outreach to the unchurched to share God’s word, and as a mission fund raiser for both the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home and the Methodist Children’s Home. We were pleased to have a group from both the Meansville Baptist Children's home and the Methodist Children's home in Americus in attendance.
The entertainment was great again this year and it included a "Jumping Castle" for the kids. The gospel singing began about 12:00 noon and continued until 6:00 p.m. There was a variety of great music going on all afternoon.
A new entry was added to the competition this year, one for the women (or men) to enjoy. It was CAKES. The top three were as follows: 1st Macedonia Baptist, 2nd Victory Worship Center, 3rd Shiloh Baptist. The winners of the BBQ portion of the contest were as follows: SAUCE: 1st New Bethel Baptist, 2nd Richland Methodist, 3rd Pleasant Hill Baptist
CHICKEN: 1st Mt. Carmel Baptist, 2nd Pleasant Hill Baptist, 3rd Lumpkin Baptist
SPARE RIBS: 1st Cusseta Methodist, 2nd Andrew Chapel Methodist, 3rd Chickasawhatchee Baptist
Boston Butt: 1st Lumpkin Baptist, 2nd Unadilla Baptist, 3rd Macedonia BaptistThanks to the collective effort of all the churches, the grilling teams, the singers and the generous donations from those that came, a total allmost $5400.00 was raised and will be divided equally between the Children's Homes. This is $600 more than last year's event raised. An estimated 400 people showed up to enjoy the afternoon of gospel singing and a Bar-B-Que dinner.
This was by far the best Holy Smoke yet. Thank you again for helping make it possible....
