Holy Smoke #12
Saturday March 28, 2015 was the day for the
twelfth annual Holy Smoke Christian Grilling Competition sponsored by
Macedonia Baptist Church (Centerpoint community).
It was a great day with cool weather in the morning and
lots of sun in the afternoon. There were 16 church teams that donated
entry fees to the cause for a total of over $1,250.00 between them. The
singing began at 10:30 am and lasted until 5 p.m. with well known singers
from the surrounding area. Each of these individuals or groups gave of their
time to help in this mission project. They were: (Chapter 41) (William
Herndon) (Antioch Southern Gospel) (Mercy’s Bridge) (Jessica & Angie Welch)
(Acts of Faith from Moultrie) (Dayspring Trio, Americus) and last but not
least (Calvary’s Cross, Americus) and Russ Kern filled in between each set with his
harmonica.
Bar-B-Que plates were sold for the noon and evening
meal with all proceeds of the day going to the Ga. Baptist Children’s
home in Meansville Ga. and the Methodist Children’s home in Americus.
This year the
mission project surpassed last year's total by almost $500.00. The total for this year's Holy Smoke mission project is $7,181.27
It will divided equally between the two homes.
After the evening meal the judging totals were
announced with trophies being given for the first three places in each
category and for grand champion. The results were: (SEE BELOW)
The Grand Champion of the 2015 BBQ competition
(that included all entries except cakes) was Unadilla First Baptist Church
with 1st & 2nd runners up being a tie between Shiloh Baptist and last
year's grand champion Oglethorpe Methodist.
The evening ended with local auctioneer, Billy
Black, auctioning off the cake entries. This part of the event itself
raised $2,315.00 toward the total for the day.
Thank you to each of the cooking teams, singers,
workers and supporters that made this year’s Holy Smoke another huge
success.
Also we give a special thank you Rick & Mary @ Honey
Bee's BBQ and to Terry @ Adams Food Center for their continued support.
