Holy Smoke #9 - The Best Yet

Saturday March 31,2012 marked the day for the ninth annual Holy Smoke Christian Grilling Competition sponsored by Macedonia Baptist Church (Centerpoint community). It was a great day (including the much needed rain) for the competition, the fellowship, and for the entertainment. The entertainment began at 11 a.m. and lasted until 5 p.m. with well known singers from Covington and Sylvester Ga., as well as from the surrounding counties.

There were 18 teams participating this year, which is the largest number of teams thus far for the event.

Bar-b-que plates were sold for the noon and evening meal with all proceeds going to the Ga. Baptist Children’s home in Meansville Ga. and the Methodist Children’s home in Americus. We are glad to say that this year the total funds raised were greater than any other year, with a total combined gift to the Children's Homes of $5497.96.

After the evening meal the judging totals were announced and the results are listed below

The Grand Champion of the 2012 BBQ competition (that included all entries except cakes) was Macedonia Baptist Church with runner up being Unity Christian Church from Ellaville and second runner up, 2010 & 2011 champs, Antioch Baptist Church.

The evening ended with local auctioneer, Billy Black, auctioning off the cake entries. This part of the event itself raised over $1900.00 toward the total for the day.
